A Quick History Of Our
Troop
Scout Master Chris Wilt
The
troop had been operating since the fall of 1987. They
initially
met in different family's homes until February of 1988
when they started meeting at fire station two, which is
now the community theater facility on Moore.

The
first Scout Master was Mr. Gary Brewer, followed by
Mr. Bob McCarty, and Mr.Forrest
Broom who
provided much of this information. Next came Mr. Waid
Davis followed by myself. The fire department was the
chartered organization in the beginning, but the troop
quickly
outgrew the facility. By the fall of 1988 we started
meeting at the middle school on Mockingbird (there was
only one
back then). We did that for about a year, until Sandy
Lake Baptist Church took over our charter and provided
our meeting
place in the spring of 1989. We are still going
strong with current membership over sixty
Scouts.
Today
Troop 840 is
operated as a boy led group. The Scouts help make the
agenda and
take a leading role in organizing all camp outs and troop
activities. The troop is 15 years old now and has been
graced
with 47 Eagle Scouts,
with several more on the way.
We currently run
a monthly outdoor program
consisting of camping, backpacking and other activities.
We have a second beginning on a Venture
Crew of about 12 boys.
Our troop stresses boy leadership,
responsibility and an active program.
