Uniform
Standard
The purpose of this standard
is to give guidance to Scouts and Scouters in Troop 840 so they know
what is expected and what is proper in certain situations.
I. Definitions
A. CLASS A and
Full Uniform
Official BSA uniform
shirt with correct emblems, neckerchief, official headgear,
Scout belt, Scout
uniform shorts or long pants (khaki
Venture shorts are not to be worn with uniform shirt),
appropriate socks (BSA green socks required with shorts), leather
or athletic shoes, 6 to 8 foot length of rope.
Adding a sash to Class A makes it a Full Uniform.
Merit Badge Sashes are worn for Boards of Review, at
Courts of Honor, and other formal events. OA
sashes are only worn at OA events. Only 1 sash at
a time.
A
sash is always worn on the right shoulder, NEVER on the belt.
For any uniform refer first to Scout Handbook, then to
BSA Insignia Guide.
B.
CLASS B
Issued green Troop
T-shirt
or sweatshirt; Troop cap or any other BSA cap; Scout belt; Scout
uniform shorts or pants, Venture shorts (if Venture member).
C.
CLASS C
Any Scout related T-shirt
or sweatshirt; Troop cap or any other BSA cap; Scout belt; Scout
uniform shorts or pants, Venture shorts (if Venture member).
D. NON-UNIFORM
Any combination(s) not meeting one of the
above standards, lean shorts, soccer (nylon) shorts, sweats, or
cut-off sweats are not acceptable alternatives.
NOTE: Sweats may be worn
over Scout shorts from home to a troop meeting if the
weather is bad. They should be removed upon arrival at
the meeting
location.
E. NECKWEAR
1. Troop neckerchief (dark green
with thin gold border and emblem) with BSA or handmade slide.
2. Eagle Scouts may substitute
any Eagle bolo tie or neckerchief.
3. Brotherhood
members of the Order of the Arrow may substitute any O.A. bolo
tie or neckerchief.
4. Scouts or
Scouters who have completed a Philmont trek may substitute any
Philmont bolo tie or neckerchief.
5. Other BSA neckerchiefs are
acceptable, except during a Court of Honor or Board of Review.
6. Neck-wear that indicates some achievement
in Scouting may worn only by an individual who has earned that
distinction.
F. HEADGEAR
Head gear is optional but if worn
it must be:
1. Official BSA mesh cap
2. Issued Troop cap
3. Any BSA
headgear indicating some achievement may be worn by an
individual who has earned that distinction.
4. Official BSA campaign hat may
be worn by trained troop officers or staff.
No non-BSA headgear
G. BELTS
l. Official BSA web belt
2. Scouts or
Scouters who have completed a High Adventure trek (Philmont, Sommers, etc.) may substitute an appropriate leather or web
belt.
H. PLACEMENT OF EMBLEMS OR PATCHES ON UNIFORMS
PATCHES ON UNIFORMS The
Boy Scout/Varsity Scout Uniform Inspection Sheet provides
instructions for all patches and their proper placement on the
uniform shirt. You can get a copy original at any Scout
Shop.
II. Troop meetings
A. DURING SCHOOL
YEAR
I. Class
A
2. Class B for the meeting
immediately following a weekend outing for those who attended the
outing. (Service Projects do not count as outings for this
purpose.)
B. DURING SUMMER
I. Class B - for meetings and at
summer camp
2. Class A - for travel to
and from camp, some at summer camp too
3. Class C as approved by the Scoutmaster
III. Outings
A. CAMPOUTS
I. Class
A-Green will be worn while traveling in both directions.
2. Troop green T-shirt (Class B)
immediately available on arrival.
3. Class A shirts
should NOT be worn routinely around campsite or activities, but
may be required for ceremonies, assemblies, or Board of Review.
4. Class C may be
worn as dictated by activity and/or environment and APPROVED by
the Scoutmaster.
B. SUMMER CAMP
I. Class A will be worn while traveling in both directions.
2. Troop green T-shirt (Class B)
immediately available on arrival.
3. Class A shirts should NOT be
worn routinely around campsite or activities, but may be
required for ceremonies, assemblies, or Board of Review. (Also
some camps require it for breakfast and dinner meals at Summer Camp.)
4. Summer Camp or Class C may be
in campsite only. Troop T-shirt should be worn to all merit
badge classes or Trail to First Class.
5. Minimum of 2 Troop shirts
required for summer camp. This is the primary clothing for 7-10
days of camping.
C. SERVICE
PROJECTS
Scouts should wear a Troop or
Scout related shirt-- the activity and/or environment will
dictate additional dress.
D. OTHER OUTINGS
OR ACTIVITIES
Class A Uniform (optional
headgear) unless announced otherwise prior to the event. (Travel
requires Class A.)
E. DISTRICT OR
COUNCIL ACTIVITIES
1. Class A - Green is
required for all District or Council sponsored activities.
2. Class B is not acceptable.
IV. Official
Events
A. SCOUTMASTER
CONFERENCE FOR RANK ADVANCEMENT AND BOARD OF REVIEWS
1. Scouts should
present themselves in complete Class A uniform in every
detail.
2. Merit Badge sash with all
earned merit badges will be worn for Star Scout, Life Scout,
Eagle Scout, or Eagle Palm Board of Review.
3. Any official BSA neckerchief
will be worn.
4. Class A-Relaxed Standard or
Class B is not acceptable unless the Board occurs during an
outing and permission is obtained from the Board.
B. COURT OF
HONOR
1. Scouts
should present themselves in Class A-Green uniform
in every detail.
2. Merit Badge sash with all
earned merit badges will be worn for Star Scout, Life Scout,
Eagle Scout, or Eagle Palm Board of Review.
3. Neckwear options 1, 2, or 3
will be worn.
4. Headgear is not worn if court
is being held in a church. Options 2 or 4 may be worn if in some
other setting.
5. Class A-Relaxed or Class B is
not acceptable.
C. EAGLE SCOUT
COURT OF HONOR
This is a formal event and we
request all attendees to dress accordingly
1. All guidelines for Court of
Honor apply.
2. Eagle Scout medals should be
worn, by all Eagle Scouts.
